Improving performance through digital brain training

Improving performance through digital brain training

The IT and software company PASS Consulting Group is cooperating with the start-up i-BrainTech to revolutionize the training methodology in football in the DACH region. With the i-Brain neural training software, significant performance increases in the double-digit percentage range can be achieved. In addition, the rehabilitation process after sports injuries is also enormously supported.

The system, which uses a neural training cap and simulation software, has already achieved success in German-speaking countries: regional league football club SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg (SVA) has been testing the i-Brain technology in a partnership with PASS for around two years. In modern brain jogging, the athlete performs his actions only in his mind and receives visual feedback on a screen.

30 percent increase in performance thanks to i-Brain

After a three-month test phase in the 2022/23 season, six SVA players used i-Brain continuously in the 2023/2024 season. The club noticed an average increase in performance of over 30 percent among these players. In total, the training platform offers more than 400 drills distributed across all positions in modern football, covering all elementary game situations and actions - such as flat passes, chip shots and penalties. This gives players the opportunity to work specifically on their deficits and, for example, improve their weak foot or refine their actions.

The success of neurofeedback training with i-Brain is demonstrated by a study sponsored by FIFA and carried out by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). Depending on the age group and training intensity, an increase in performance of up to 30 percent was also recorded here.

Supporting the rehabilitation process with cognitive priming

In addition to performance on the pitch, the application also supports the rehabilitation process after injuries. The lever here is cognitive priming: through visualization, the player activates the motor centers in the brain, which are subsequently more accessible. This improves the ability to plan, control and execute movements without straining the body. Depending on their state of health, athletes can prepare for the subsequent phases of their rehabilitation weeks in advance. During the recovery process, core motor skills are retained and a rapid return to pre-injury performance levels is made possible.

"The results that SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg has achieved with i-Brain in recent months are truly remarkable," says Kevin Wittke, Head of Business Unit Sports at PASS and a former professional footballer himself. "We now want to make this highly interesting technology available to other professional and semi-professional football clubs." Wittke will be supported by former Bundesliga goalkeeper Max Grün, who currently stands between the posts at SVA and is also responsible for the use of i-Brain there.

Highly innovative technology for clubs in DE, AT and CH

i-BrainTech, founded in Tel Aviv in 2019, is a sports technology company that develops advanced neurofeedback solutions. Its main product is a platform that uses electroencephalography (EEG) to monitor athletes' brain activity in real time. Training programs for concentration and stress management are used. The aim is to maximize athletic performance.

"Understanding the athlete's brain through neuroscience is critical for unlocking their full potential. However, effective cognitive training should be specific and data-driven”, says Dr. Konstantin Sonkin, CEO of i-BrainTech. “Professional neurofeedback technology provides athletes with the tools they need to develop essential cognitive skills for peak performance. We're thrilled to partner with PASS to bring this innovation to the region."
